Earth is a CTF machine from Vulnhub created by SirFlash. This is the third machine from his series “The Planets” and the previous machine “Venus” was equally great. As the author said, the difficulty is subjective to the experience. And, for me, I had to take hints for the root privilege escalation. The machine works well on VirtualBox.
OTP is a difficult machine by the user avijneyam in the HackMyVM platform. By that, I mean there are many steps that one needs to perform to get to the root user. As usual, this machine works well on VirtualBox.
Venus is the first lab from the HackMyVM platform. This is a CTF that consists of 50 flags and a few hidden too. At the time of writing, the lab is a docker container and is available online via SSH. Similarly, this is a very easy CTF machine and beginners can directly dive into this.
Government is a moderately difficult machine from the HackMyVM platform. The creator of the machine is 0xJin. There are a lot of unnecessary things one need to ignore while doing this machine. In this walkthrough, I will be only pointing out the correct way to get to the root.
Serve is an easy machine from the HackMyVM platform by d4t4s3c. It’s a bit tricky to get the foothold but the remaining steps are pretty easy. Lastly, the machine works on VirtualBox.
Isengard is an easy machine from HackMyVM by bit. It works well on VirtualBox. As for the machine, we can get into the machine by using Remote Command Execution. Similarly, for the root part, we have to abuse the sudo permissions.
Welcome to my writeup of a new machine from HackMyVM. Stagiaire is a hard machine by cromiphi. This is a very good machine and is worth trying. Similarly, it works better on VirtualBox. Also, make sure you change the RAM to 1 GB as the author has 3.5 GB by default for this VM.
Family2 is a very easy machine from HackMyVM. This is quite straightforward and no bruteforcing is required on this machine. As for the machine, it works better on VirtualBox but you might want to reduce the RAM allocation for it.
is post, I am going to show you the steps for boot-to-root TheFool. It is a hard machine by SML from the HackMyVM platform. However, it doesn’t require any special techniques to completely exploit it. And, burp suite is really helpful in this machine. Furthermore, there are some rabbit holes along the way.
Confusion is an easy machine by avijneyam from the HackMyVM platform. I like this machine personally. Also, it works quite well on VirtualBox. The exploitation starts with an insecure feature of python2 and a little bit of enumeration inside the machine. However, a better enumeration can save one from these steps. Nevertheless, I will show them steps as they are good points for learning.
